THE CHURCH OF SAINT GEORGE – 14TH CENTURY THE BAPTISMAL FONT, SAINT PAULINE’S RELICS AND THE STATUE DEDICATED TO HER
Saint Pauline was baptised with the name
Amabile Lucia in the church of Saint George, one day after her birth, in the baptismal font located to the right of the main entrance. Inside the church, on the altar dedicated to the Heart of Jesus, in addition to the Saint’s statue, there is also a relic donated by the congregation of the Little Sisters: a femoral bone.
The first records indicating the existence of an actual church in
Vigolo Vattaro date back to 1368 although it seems that in 1283 there already existed a primitive chapel dedicated to Saint George.
The structure of today’s church is substantially the same as the one built between 1538 and 1558.
