The most easily accessible resort area in Trentino is about to experience one of the most heartfelt times of the year – Advent, rich in tradition and warmth.
When one speaks of Alpe Cimbra, one immediately thinks of an area that unites landscape, history, sport, and identity: the plateaus of Folgaria, Lavarone, Lusérn, and Vigolana represent a perfect example of a modern mountain environment, able to merge unspoiled nature, quality tourism, and a rich and lively cultural tradition. Here, the mountain is not only a place to be discovered but a true laboratory where snow, competition, relaxation, and cultural experiencescoexist harmoniously.
Alpe Cimbra is a destination that offers extraordinary scenery for winter sports enthusiasts: about 104 kilometers of well-prepared slopes, served by modern lifts and a technological snowmaking system, guarantee excellent conditions throughout the season. Iconic runs such as Salizzona, Agonistica, and Avéz del Prinzep have become reference points for both expert skiers and beginners. But beyond numbers and technical features, the true strength of Alpe Cimbra lies in its overall offer: the woods, meadows, and panoramic views over the Dolomites and the Adamello and Pasubio mountain groups make for a complete experience, capable of satisfying families, enthusiasts, and competitive skiers alike, without forgetting the historical and cultural traces of the Great War that cross these highlands. Here, the mountain is something to breathe, see, hear, and live in every detail.
On Alpe Cimbra, Christmas takes on a unique charm. From November 29, 2025, to January 5, 2026, the village of Bertoldi veci in Lavarone becomes an open-air nativity scene, with stone alleys illuminated by warm lights and wooden huts hosting artisans and local producers. Here, Christmas decorations, ceramics, wooden objects, and fragrant sweets tell stories of tradition and craftsmanship, while mulled wine and freshly baked strudel warm visitors’ hearts. From December 5 to 8, the village of Bosentino hosts “Artigiani a Bosentino – The Christmas Market”, an event that celebrates creativity and conviviality with live music, workshops for children, and moments of sharing. And the legends are not missing: the Krampus, with hand-carved masks and natural furs, parade through the market streets in fiery and mysterious processions, offering thrills and amazement. Folgaria and Lusérn enrich the calendar with a full program of lights, events, and celebrations, making the Christmas experience on Alpe Cimbra a true fairy tale of snow and tradition.
Alpe Cimbra is not only about tourism and nature – it is also a training ground for elite athletes. The ski area hosts the U.S. men’s Ski Team in preparation for upcoming Olympic competitions. The technical slopes such as Salizzona and Agonistica offer ideal conditions for high-level training, while the maintenance of the lifts and the efficiency of the ski area guarantee the best performances for the athletes. The arrival of the U.S. team confirms the international value of the Trentino mountains and establishes it as a destination of excellence also for competitive skiing, alongside national and international teams in training and testing programs on the slopes. For those who frequent the mountain closely, this presence means high-quality infrastructure, international visibility, and a model of management and maintenance of the highest standard.
Alongside adult competition, Alpe Cimbra pays attention to young people with the Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup, scheduled from March 1 to 6, 2026, in Folgaria. The event involves about 800 young skiers under 16 from different nations, offering them the opportunity to compete on technical slopes and official FIS courses. The event is a showcase for emerging talents and an opportunity to observe the future growth of international skiing. The slopes, timing systems, logistics, and services guarantee a complete professional experience, consolidating the reputation of Alpe Cimbra as a center for youth training and competition. The event also benefits the area in terms of visibility, tourism flows, and mountain promotion, creating a virtuous circle between sport, tourism, and the local community.
1) The News
Work continues on the new Francolini–Sommo Alto gondola lift, which will replace the historic two-seater chairlift from the 1970s. The modern Leitner 10-person gondola, with spacious enclosed cabins, departs from Francolini at 1,178 meters and reaches the Sommo Alto summit at 1,620 meters in just eight minutes. From the top, skiers can immediately take the famous Salizzona slope, head toward Fondo Piccolo and Alpe di Coe, or ski along the Ortesinoand Costa runs. The Francolini slope, 3.2 km long, passes through forests and varied gradients, with TechnoAlpin artificial snowmaking. The gondola will also operate from May to October, allowing for hiking, mountain biking, or gravel riding to the Botanical Garden, Lago Coe, Base Tuono, and Monte Maggio, or for downhill routes along former military roads and biotopes, offering an active mountain experience all year round.
