The eye of the Altipiani
At 1908 m above sea level, the fortress is all one with the mountain carrying the same name.

Due to its position, it was called the “eye of the Altipiani”. More precisely, it was a reinforced observatory, controlling the Val d’Assa and Alta Valsugana below.

For the close defence, it had 7 machine guns in reinforced domes, artillery and 2 reflectors.

On 30th May 1915, the Val Brenta battalion attacked Forte Cima Vezzena, but the fort never capitulated. Moreover, it was heavily bombed by the Italians.

How to reach Forte Cima Vezzena:
From Passo Vezzena (parking): walk to Forte Busa Verle (cars not allowed), and then continue towards Malga Marcai.
After 4.5 km take the off-road on the left that leads to the fortress.

Difference in height: about 500m.

Children: +8 years old. Pay attention to the cliff!
