Alpine forests, art and climate change: Stefano Caimi's installation in Luserna (TN)
The work Stasi – ecosystemic balances in progress, created by the artist Stefano Caimi in Luserna on Alpe Cimbra, explores the complexity of the Alpine forest landscapes of Trentino. Often perceived as pristine areas, these forests are actually the result of silvicultural practices and today highly exposed to the effects of climate change in the mountains.
Among the most dramatic events, the Vaia storm of 2018 felled around 14 million trees, creating favorable conditions for the spread of the typographer bark beetle, a parasite that attacks spruce trees (spruces) and puts the health of entire forests at risk. Its proliferation is aggravated by increasingly mild winters, which favor its survival.
Through an environmental installation made of cables suspended between living and dead trees, Caimi visualizes the cycles of life, death and rebirth of the Alpine forest, in a work that combines contemporary art and environmental awareness. The project, which can be visited in Luserna, invites us to reflect on the fragility of mountain ecosystems and the need for conscious forest management, in a context profoundly transformed by climate change and human intervention.
An immersive experience that combines nature, art and sustainability, in the heart of Trentino.
