Discover one of “Italy's Most Beautiful Villages,” where language, traditions, and nature tell a story that spans thousands of years in the heart of the Alpe Cimbra.

Immersed in a quiet setting of immense natural beauty, Lusérn is the village of the Cimbrian language, still spoken today by its inhabitants, where time seems to slow down to offer an authentic mountain holiday experience in Trentino.

Luserna/Lusérn, a small village at 1,333 m above sea level south-east of Trento, is one of the last linguistic islands in Europe where Cimbrian, an ancient Bavarian-origin language, is still spoken by around 90% of the population.

It lies on the southern edge of the Alpe Cimbra, between Folgaria and Lavarone, extending towards Passo Vezzena (1,402 m a.s.l.), a natural connection point with the Asiago Plateau. A territory ideal for mountain excursions and trekking in Trentino.

Lusérn has developed its own tourism identity focused on nature-based wellbeing and slow tourism: in summer it is perfect for a summer holiday in Trentino dedicated to relaxation, nature and food and wine experiences; in winter, thanks to its proximity to the Millegrobbe Cross-Country Centre and the Lavarone Ski Area, it offers numerous opportunities for snow sports.

A thousand-year-old borderland, it has preserved and passed down ancient Cimbrian traditions. Today, Lusérn offers a rich range of outdoor activities in Trentino, including hiking, biking routes, and cycle paths that cross wide alpine pastures.

Here, you don’t just visit a country. You immerse yourself in a culture.

At Lusérn, time is not just slower. It is different.
Here still lives the Cimbrian community, one of the oldest linguistic minorities in Europe, which arrived in these mountains over a thousand years ago.A language, an identity and a way of life that elsewhere have disappeared… but here still resist.
The Cimbrian language: a living heritage

In Lusérn, Cimbrian is not memory. It is everyday life.
A language of Germanic origin, still spoken today by most of the inhabitants, which makes this village one of the last linguistic islands in Europe.
