Elvio Facchinelli e l'asilo gestito di Porta ticinese a Milano

Conference cycle, homage to Elvio Facchinelli. Meeting with Mauro Milanaccio (STAP - Trentino Alto Adige Psychoanalysis Society).

The "non-authoritarian self-managed" kindergarten publicly began in 1970, in an old building in Corso di Porta Ticinese, a neighborhood that was very popular at the time where many children, excluded from attending municipal kindergartens, were forced to stay locked indoors or play in the streets.
The initiative was started by Elvio Fachinelli and a group of participants in the "counter-course" proposed and promoted by students of Education at the State University of Milan between 1968 and 1969.
The idea was to move away from a "private" dimension by trying to experiment with a policy capable of going, as was said then, "to the roots of humanity," addressing the time of childhood, where the first formation of individuals takes place. If one wanted to start changing something, it seemed clear that it was necessary to begin with childhood.
The ambition of the kindergarten was to constitute a space in which children were not regimented, that is, educated to the passive obedience of every authority. Therefore, the kindergarten was born as the place of a utopia, in the highest sense of the term, where the principle of coercion is intended to be replaced by that of "self-regulation."
