Monday, March 30 at 8:30 PM at the Teatro Comunale di Vattaro (Altopiano della Vigolana TN) there will be a public assembly organized by the Municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana titled "KNOWING THE WOLF".
The meeting presented by the association "I am not afraid of the wolf" and WWF is sponsored by the Autonomous Province of Trento and in collaboration with the Brenta River Reserves Network.
The assembly will feature Francesco Romito from the association "I am not afraid of the wolf" APS - an expert and connoisseur of this predator that has returned to populate our territory.
The topic of coexistence with large carnivores is a burning and divisive issue, as well as a current one. We often witness the adoption of clear and often opposing positions, while we believe there is a possibility for dialogue.
We think that communication about the presence of the species by dedicated personnel must be timely, continuous, and not limited to emergency situations or compensation practices. We believe that individual contexts must be carefully analyzed and the best practices to apply locally should be understood and shared. Furthermore, people who have suffered damage should not be left alone but should be supported over time by dedicated personnel.
Coexistence with large carnivores must be a topic involving various stakeholders with shared proposals, ceasing to be presented as a "problem" in a mountainous environment that we want to be rich in biodiversity, knowledge, and exchanges.
The Municipality of Altopiano della Vigolana, in recent weeks has joined a European project LIFE NatConnect2030, (Regions of Lombardy, Piedmont, Emilia Romagna, Veneto, and the Autonomous Province of Trento, numerous environmental associations, and Park Management Bodies) for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
A Pact for Biodiversity has been signed with Legambiente Lombardia to become "Guardian of Biodiversity" committing to some concrete initiatives. Among these is also promoting coexistence with wildlife.
You are invited to attend the public meeting.
Kind regards
